Step by Step Guide: Artificial Flower Basket Arrangement
The first step in creating an artificial flower basket arrangement is to visualize the design, style and colors. The initial concept you envision regarding the look you want to achieve will serve as a guide as you begin putting the arrangement together.
Create a suitable work area with plenty of room for supplies. If you plan to work on a large table or counter top, spread newspaper over the top for easy clean up and to protect the surface from hot glue.
Place the container on the work area. Lay out your supplies in an orderly fashion by placing the primary flowers, filler flowers and greenery to one side of the container. Place your craft scissors, craft knife, foam block and moss on the opposite side of the container. Plug in the glue gun and put it in a convenient location. Do not place it in an area where it can be knocked over or where the tip of the glue gun is in close proximity to materials.
Take the foam block or blocks and place inside the basket. When foam blocks to secure flowers, depending on the size and shape of the container, it may be necessary to shave and cut the block to make it fit inside the basket. The foam block should come within 1 to 2-inches of the top of the container.
Use the craft scissors to clip the stems and create varying heights of the flowers. Clip away any unnecessary leaves near the base of the stem. Put these aside for later use, if needed, as filler. To add extra support to the arrangement, place a drop of hot glue on the tip of each floral stem prior to inserting it into the foam block.
As the flowers are added, disperse the placement of the stems to vary the color and height of the arrangement. This provides a main platform to work around while creating the design. Once you have a basic set of flowers in place, look at each side of the arrangement checking for uniformity in the design and color placement. Fill in or rearrange areas as needed.
Start placing filler flowers or greenery, such as ivy, into the arrangement. Alternate color patterns and mix it up to make the arrangement vibrant. Add small bits of brightly colored flowers for contrast. Once all of the flowers are in place, take an overall look and make any final adjustments.
Use the moss to cover the foam by gently working it in and around the base of each stem. Finish off the arrangement by spraying a floral sealant designed to protect dried flowers.
Use caution when working with a glue gun, craft scissors and craft knife. Keep children and pets away from these items.
